Does Pulling Hair Cause Hair Loss? - September 17th, 2009

After I had my first baby I breast fed for about 6 months.  I still took my prenatal vitamins while I was breast feeding and even after.  As soon as I stopped breast feeding I could not believe the hair loss I experienced.  I would have my hair come out in gobs and gobs.  I would stop up the drain in the shower because of my hair loss.  I’m not sure why this happens.  I also lost a lot of weight quickly after I stopped breast feeding.  Maybe our bodies hold on to the extra weight and our hair might be thicker due to the babies needs.  It might be a defense mechanism for the baby so that he/she will receive all the nutrients that it needs.

I’m not sure but I was really worried that I might not have any hair left after a few weeks of continuous hair down the drain.  The funny thing about it was that after the hair loss was gone my head didn’t really feel any different.  My hair still looked the same.  It makes me wonder if it wasn’t just extra hair all along that I didn’t need so my body just shed it.  Just like the weight.
